KTWR New Service to Nepal

KTWR has just started a special transmission to Nepal at 1345-1445UTC on 15280 kHz from Guam. Due to interference for the 1st quarter it is now retimed at 1400-1500UTC on the same 15280 kHz effective 1st May 2015. The schedule is 1400-1415 Nepali, 1415-1425 Hindi, 1425-1430 Bhojpuri and 1430-1500 English all on 15280kHz.

BBC Nepali on SW

BBC is back on SW with Nepali Service (till now relayed over by a number FM stations in Nepal) after the massive earthquake on 25th April. The schedule is as follows :

World Service :
2300-2400UTC : 5895 kHz(Thailand) & 9540 kHz(Singapore)

Nepali Service :
0130-0145UTC : 11995kHz(Thailand) & 15510kHz(Thailand)
1500-1600UTC : 5895kHz(Thailand) and 9650kHz(Singapore).

B14 Schedule updated

AIR new freq 9380

All India Radio(AIR) has started, from 21st July, a new service on Short Wave with Vividh Bharati and National Channel combined on 9380 kHz coming from Aligarh towards Southern India. The schedule is :
0100-0435 UTC Vividh Bharati
0900-1200 UTC Vividh Bharati
1320-0040 UTC National Channel (replacing 9470kHz).

9870 kHz  with Vividh Bharati and 9425 kHz with National Channel will continue as before.

IRDR PROJECT REPORT

The Trial of International Radio for Disaster Relief (IRDR) during the Media Summit on Climate Change, ICTs and Disaster Risk Reduction 5-6 June 2014, Jakarta, Indonesia

This is for the first time ever that international radio stations have volunteered to demonstrate that shortwave broadcasting is capable of communicating relevant information to the affected populations immediately after a disaster strikes. Receivers are light- weight and cheap and the technology is unique in being completely disaster resistant: the transmitting facilities can be hundreds or even thousands of kilometres away from the disaster zone suffering from a total communication and information blackout, in case something unexpected might happen.

Special transmissions in English or Mandarin or Indonesian targeting Indonesia (in UTC) on June 5-6, 2014: 

Audio files are all monitored in Calcutta on Sangean 909 with external antenna.

BBC changes 1300-1400

BBC World Service in English at 1300-1400 hrs is changing their freqs daily.
15xxx is replacing 15310 kHz :

15150 Su,Mo
15310 We,Fr,Sa
15660 Tu,Th

17xxx is replacing 17790kHz
17720 Mo.We
17790 Su,Fr
17845 Tu,Th,Sa

Also Bengali on every Su,Tu is now at 1400-1500 hrs on 15720 kHz (replacing 9610 kHz) in parallel to 11730 and 9410 kHz.

New freq of GFA

Gospel for Asia is now using 15395 kHz (replacing 15215) at 1530-1630 hrs to South Asia, to avoid interference.

A14 schedule updated

B13 - recent changes

Recent schedule changes :

VOICE OF AMERICA
ENGLISH : 0100-0200 hrs 9845kHz(ex-9790), 15130(ex-15205).
1500-1600 Learning English 12125(ex-7520), 9900kHz(ex-9760).

BENGALI : Effective 3rd January 1600-1700 11850kHz(ex-9490) kHz. Other channels continues on 7405 and 1575(MW).

B13 schedule updated

Vatican Radio drops Urdu service

With effect from 4th September Vatican Radio is closing down its Urdu language broadcast. The following transmissions will no longer be broadcast :

11730 kHz, 15470 kHz      0025-0040 hrs  UTC      Monday, Thursday   

15460 kHz   0320-0335 hrs UTC Monday,Thursday

11850 kHz, 15110 kHz      1415-1430 hrs   UTC     Sunday, Wednesday   

Additional Freqs for BBC WS

In order to avoid noise jamming BBC added some frequencies for their World Service broadcast to South Asia in English :
0000-0100 hrs 7320 kHz via Dhabayya
0100-0200 hrs 9500 kHz via Tashkent
1500-1600 hrs 9735 kHz via Tashkent
1600-1700 hrs 9910 kHz via Tashkent

DXASIA is back but as dxasia.in

Our Advisor Andy Sennitt writes :

I'm pleased to announce that DXAsia, which has been unreachable since
early June, is now back online at a new URL - http://dxasia.in. If you have
bookmarked this site, please update your bookmarks. Alok is busy updating
the pages. 

The story of why the site went offline is a long one, but basically I
registered the old domain 10 years ago, changed my email address and
forgot to update the details with the company that held the registration,
so I never received a notification that it was due for renewal. They have
proved less than helpful in getting us back online, so we decided to
register the site with an Indian company that Alok can deal with more
easily. It continues to be hosted in the UK. Please spread the word that
the site is back.

DX Asia.info site

Due to some technical difficulties DXAsia.info is not available at the moment. We're working on it  and will be back soon. In the meantime this blog will continue to be updated regularly.

VOA English

Due to interference VOA in English to S.Asia is now at 1400-1500(Mon-Fri) on 15490 kHz from the Philippines and 1500-1600 daily on the same 15490 kHz from Thailand. This replaces 12120kHz. Parallel channels for this period 7575 kHz (Thailand) and 12150kHz(Philiipines).

PCJ Radio

New frequency for next hour-long PCJ broadcast via Sri Lanka is 11835 kHz:
from  Trincomalee,Sri Lanka

Due to co-channel interference on 11750 kHz we will change frequency for
this Sunday, June 2nd. The new frequency is 11835 kHz. Your comments and
reports about this new frequency are important. 

June 16th - 1300-1400 UT
June 23rd - 1300-1400 UT
June 30th - 1300-1400 UT
July  7th - 1300-1400 UT

Frequency: 11835 kHz (25 mb). Target Area: East and Southeast Asia.
Power: 125 kW

Recent SLBC Changes

Received a mail from roshan@visagespice.com :

SLBC are gearing themselves to come out strongly from Saturday 1^st June ’13 by upgrading their transmission output by 1,250% on the 31m band’s 9770khz signal from a previous mere 10kwts output to 125kwts output as they transfer their Short Wave relay operation from historic Ekala on the west coastline to Nilaveli in Trincomalee on the Eastern coastline.

SLBC are dropping out on the previous 49m (6005khz) ; 19m (15745khz) bands on the English All Asia Service ; would continue operating only a single but previously very popular band of 31m band on the 9770khz frequency in the future.

The only hitch’s that the English All Asia Service would be operating from 0215 – 0330hrs daily.

Many Short Wave specialists believe that this enhanced output would be sufficient to cover entire Indian geography?

Here’s the revised frequencies & broadcast times….

1.    0115-0213 UTC Hindi AAS on 11905khz on the 25m band. (2 minutes at end to quickly retune transmitter to 31m band)

2. 0215-0330 UTC English AAS on 9770khz on the 31m band.

3.    1115-1215 UTC South Indian dialects on 9770khz on the 31m band.
